1. Colorful Design

You will need to choose a color theme for your wedding cards. To this end, you can consider having a really colorful wedding card. Xmas is meant to be very colorful at the end of the day. You will probably need to go for the idea of offset printing so that you can print a beautiful and colorful card.

2. Cartoon Design

You may want to work with a cartoonist to help you to create some cartoon drawings which are related to the idea of Xmas and winter. For example, you can create a drawing in a way that both of you and your fiancé will look like the Santa Clause. The point here is that you will try to make the Christmas wedding invitations interesting and cute. Of course it will be less formal. Yet, your guests will certainly love it!

3. Xmas Elements

As a wedding invitation designer. I have met a lot of clients who would like to have some unique ideas on the invitation card. However, one common problem I find is that most brides and grooms do not really know how to design it.

The video wedding invitation of Laura and Kev is really interesting. Some may think that it is insane but I do not think so. It is really a special and good way to invite the guest to the wedding. A visa card (just look like the real one) with your wedding day information printing on it and with the date in emboss print on the plastic card. So real and special, I guess most of the guests would keep the card as a souvenir of your wedding.

It is always a good idea to have your wedding theme based on your own personal situation. Because it would be just for your wedding. Of course, in this case for example, I think the couple might not have thought about if there will be any copyright infringement by using the Logo of VISA. But I think this are always ways to sort out this problem by tweaking the design!

There are sometimes clients asking me that if there is discount when the quantity of order for the invitation is larger. In fact, this is a common misconception for clients in Hong Kong. This is mainly due to the practices of other wedding invitation vendors. They will tell the clients there will be discounts when they order more. And indeed the discounts they refer to is a lower unit price.

A Simple Law of Economics

In fact we should not treat the lower unit price a discount. As a matter of fact, it is only a simple law of economics. The cost of a business is the total cost of fixed cost and variable cost. When we are printing the wedding cards, there is a fixed cost for printing, and the variable cost is the material (most probably paper). As a result the unit price will be lower when a larger quantity is ordered.

Paid or free services

In this case I will suggest you to search for some wedding cliparts. Some website will charge you a small fee (something like USD29 per month) and you can download the cliparts without any limit.

You can also find some websites which offer free wedding cliparts. Of course the quality will not be as high as the cliparts from a paid site but it will be good enough if do not want to spend any extra on wedding cliparts.

A wedding card with the portrait of the couple

Today I found an interesting wedding card on the web. It is a wedding card with the couple’s portrait on it. The portrait is in the style of a cartoon drawing.

In fact it is quite common to use a cartoon drawing to make a wedding card nowadays. What is interesting about this card is that it is very Chinese.

A “mix and match” approach of design

As a designer myself, I find this kind of “mix and match” design quite interesting. It is very Chinese because the main color theme is red. And on the other hand it is very modern, with the cartoon drawing on it.

When you are designing your wedding invitation, you can also take this approach to make a collage of different styles and elements.

I have a friend who is going to get married. Just like other couples she tried to find more inexpensive wedding items in order to save budget.

For her wedding invitation, she has found a company which is “specialized” in cartoon drawings. They will draw the portrait of the couple in a style like a cartoon drawing. However, my friend found that they do not really have a shop or office. They were just renting a table or something in a tailor’s shop and claimed that it’s a shop. My friend felt a bit uncomfortable with the company but they offered my friend quite a huge discount in order to get the job.

Eventually, my friend found that everything is wrong. The company was not really drawing their portrait. Instead they just put a drawing they did before on the wedding card. The envelope was not the one my friend chose at the beginning. The company even said that my friend needed to pay extra if she wanted to get the envelope they originally chose.

Never hire a wedding vendor which offers you too much discounts

My friend’s experience is really bad. What I think is that, if you found a wedding vendor which can offer a very low price that it is difficult to be real, you should not hire them. The best way to avoid such experience is to compare thoroughly. You can approach different shops and companies to get an idea of the average price. If the price offered by a wedding vendor is too low compared to the average price, I will suggest you not to hire that company.

You can only have your wedding once, and it will not be worth taking that risk!
