The Wedding Party: Big or Small?

partyWhen you begin making plans for your wedding one of the big decisions to make is going to be how big or small you want the wedding party to be. If both your families are fairly small with just two or three siblings, this decision will probably be an easy one to make; you will probably have a small wedding party with just your siblings standing up with you.

If one of you comes from a big family and the other one comes from a small family, or if both of you come from big families, this decision might be a difficult one to make. You will either end up with a huge wedding party so that both sets of siblings can stand up with you, or you will have a small wedding party where you both only have a couple of your siblings stand up with you, and then you risk the rest of your siblings getting their feelings hurt.

Weddings can cost a lot of money even before you start adding in the cost of the tuxes and dresses for the people in your wedding party. You also need to stop and think about just how important it is to the both of you to have a wedding party. Your wedding would be nice even if you each only had one or two people standing up with you.

Typical weddings include the bride and groom paying for the bridesmaids and groomsmen dresses and tuxedos. If your wedding party has four or five bridesmaids and groomsmen, and dresses and tuxedos cost approximately $150 each to rent, you are looking at spending over $1100 just in rental cost, and that doesn’t include the cost of the dress and tuxedo for the flower girl and ring bearer. Are the two of you willing to shell out that kind of money just to be sure that no one gets offended or hurt feelings by not being in the wedding party?

I would say that having two bridesmaids and two groomsmen are the perfect size for any wedding party. There are other wedding duties that the rest of your siblings can be in charge of if they aren’t able to be a part of the wedding party. They can be in charge of the guest book, greeting your guests, seating everyone, and serving during the reception. And, they will still be included in all of the wedding pictures that are taken.

Ultimately, the two of you are going to have to sit down and decide on the size of your wedding party and then stick to that decision whether you decide on a big or small wedding party. This is your day and things should be the way you want it.
