The Hungry Ghost Festival
Yesterday was the “Hungry Ghost Festival” (14 July) in the Chinese Calendar. Traditionally no one will get married in July (in the Chinese Calendar) because the gate between the hell and our world will open in this month. Getting married in this month will only render bad luck or unhappy marriage.
All about taboos
Some brides-to-be even tell me that they will not do anything related to their wedding this month. They will not even order any wedding item this month.
Although it is a bit superstitious to follow all these traditions, I think it is interesting that there are so many taboos related to wedding. And if time allows, it does no harm to follow these traditions. You may also follow them to make sure that nothing will be going wrong.
